The canalside vegetated aquatic strips with waterfowl protection waiting to go into the canal. These are planted with Carex, Iris, Phalaris, Glyceria, Sparganium, Lythrum and Common Reed which are all typically found along canal banks.
The vegetated aquatic strips are a floating structure, tethered to the canal bed by mud anchors and then loosely moored to the steel piles at the side of the canal with wire rope to prevent floating away. This allow it to go up and down with the wash caused by boat traffic.
